The Yorkshire Terrier originated from Yorkshire, the North of England and were bred to hunt. A Yorkie is a toy dog. There is no such thing as "Teacup Yorkies" or "Miniature Yorkies", these types of dogs are just small yorkies. The smallest dog is a Yorkie or Yorkshire Terrier and should not weight more than seven pounds. Our site is to educate the public in the care of a Yorkie puppy and their nutritional needs and health issues. Yorkie breeders come in many forms, my first suggestion is never buy a yorkie puppy before three months of age. If you are thinking of buying a yorkie puppy, take your time and look for a reputable Yorkshire Terrier breeder. A reputable Yorkie breeder yorkie breeder will ask alot questions if not more about you and your homelife as you will ask about them when purchasing a puppy and also tell you the positive and negative of owning their particular breed.

Breeding yorkies one must be dedicated and also breeds the American Kennel Club standard because when a breeder trys to breed the best yorkie you can is not easy and is very costly. Please view the AKC standard.

Reputable yorkie breeders pick and choose the buyer because they concerned where each of their yorkie puppies go. If a reputable yorkie breeder has a puppy available it doesn't always mean you will get to buy it unless you meet their standards. They check in with the new owners to see how they are doing in their new homes and are always there if one needs them. Yorkies are the best little family pets but I would suggest owning one that is at least six to seven pounds. The Yorkie has lived up to 13 to 15 years of age with the proper care. If you are interested in a teacup yorkie or miniature yorkie don't buy one under three pounds. Many vets state that yorkies of this size do have more health issues. When a breeder sells their Yorkie puppies at three months of age they are still very small and fragile little dogs. If your looking for a Yorkie, buy a yorkie puppy from a Reputable Yorkshire Terrier breeder.
